Here is the email we just sent Contour, I know we need Cameras so all of you GoPro lovers relax for a second we still have not heard back from them and will let you know when we talk with them again, we are just moving to find options to make sure you guys don’t miss what is coming. AFFECTER LAUNCH! NPA .PRESIDENT and some surprises from new Islanders After almost a year in R&D, we will tell you not just how influential you are….but how influential you WILL be….IN 3D!! I attached a screen of the launch page above.
Ok kidding about the 3D part, but it feels like cinema has resulted to tacking on 3D to old plot lines for monotonous gain. Ex. Star Wars 3D remake.
How authentic are we? So authentic.
I am writing on behalf of a group of entrepreneurs going to Startup Island in Thailand in October.
It is an incredible place, as cool as the name implies, where the most innovative products and services are developed on a reality TV show that captures the feasibility of entrepreneurship and open transparency of hard work while trumping patents, business titles, sleep, and paperwork in general.
I believe companies are groups of people pursuing a common goal or gift back to the world. We believe that entrepreneurship can happen, and that students, clients, accountants, electricians, can do this. You CAN sell your company, you CAN build a bad ass app, all of those stupid titles are normal people…we are normal people. That is why we are coming to Contour, in the next 270 days we are going to fund and build Startup Island, with $1.5M, 27 people, 13 startups, and 13 incredible Rockstarpreneurs, posting the entire concept online in a free reality TV with every story of every startup involved. So, I am not some CEO RAH TAH TAH of Startup Island, I am a 22 year old young man who works his ass off and do what I love. I am tired of putting everyone done with the companies I do or have done, because they are not accounting books, nameplates, and paychecks, but passions of mine.
On January 20nd 2012, we started with a smartphone and an idea. And we posted a picture of registering the domain StartupIsland.TV 2 days later. And when we do this Island, in total authenticity, and it works, we will have proven that anyone can.
That is why we are coming to you. Just to be authentic, we went to GoPro first because I saw them at a Ski Resort. I am not trying to pit them against you, we literally left a VMAIL and a rep called us back in 15 minutes and offered 40% off all their products. Clearly nice guys, but the problem is, this is not enough to prove that anyone can do this. We need 6 cameras to start watching 6 entrepreneurs, and having received investments in past companies of mine I could have easily have just bought the gear. But we need to do this with a smartphone and an idea, and buying the top GOPRO camera (6 of them) even at 40% off to record us going to the island would cost over $720. Not money a college student could stomach. So…we Googled other extreme cameras that can handle our trips out to thailand and meetings with, for example the founder of Admob HOLY SHIT or Zappos CEO (NAME DROPPING!!) and Contour we found next.
On the island we will have labs, teleconferencing, computer systems, and we need to eat. We are reaching out to incredible companies to do this, and I got to have a great conversation about Startup Island with the CTO of the White House. We are after Virgin Atlantic for flights, Sony for TVs etc etc.
We are interested in offering 34 hours of video and several product placement options for sponsorship with your cameras specifically. Depending on what we can logically do we would also consider signing an exclusivity agreement for our extreme stuff. We cant start showing the story until we get them. Right now you can read everything on our live Tumblr
Either way, whoever is reading this, you were meant to read it. Remember what Steve Jobs said about looking in the mirror in the morning and being passionate about what you are about to do that day. If that is not you, seriously, join us. Even if not in person, in practice. Even if this has nothing to do with Contour, one more person who believes in openness and transparency and passion in the work they do is worth a million cameras.
